Principles, Preachers, and Christian Distance Education

Christian Distance education is no longer only an occasional correspondence course related to a specific subject or book of the Bible. Today, accredited Christian school and colleges offer degree programs. Christian distance education can meet the requirements for high school graduates, ministers, and laymen wanting a Christian-based degree in psychology or counseling.
Many home schooling parents choose Christian distance education as an alternative to public schooling. The curriculum is based upon Christian principles and beliefs. The Bible is the foundation for all subjects. Secular theories and ideologies are not presented as truth. In addition to the benefits of avoiding the influences of drugs, alcohol, and crime, the laws governing the separation of church and state do not restrict Christian distance education students. For example, prayer is allowed. Students acquire a high school diploma, while simultaneously strengthening religious and moral beliefs.
Beyond the high school diploma, Christian distance education affords individuals the opportunity to study for the ministry. Students may aspire to become a full-time pulpit minister or a youth minister. Contrary to popular belief, speaking on Sunday is only a small portion of ministry, and education is necessary. Ministers counsel, teach, comfort, and physically labor for the various needs of a congregation. In addition, youth ministers answer to the unique needs of today's youth. Many youngsters come from broken homes. With drugs and alcohol so prevalent in today's society, home may no longer be a child's safe haven from the world's troubles. Youth ministers may fill the roles of a parent, friend, counselor, teacher, and confidante. Again, youth rallies and fun activities are only a small portion of a youth minister's job. Christian distance education may enable an individual to enter the ministry and benefit the community, without uprooting a family, or losing a means of support.
Laymen may also seek distance education, thus benefiting the community through Christian psychology and counseling. Many people are more comfortable seeking help, if the counselor or psychologist shares a foundation in Christian principles and ideals. Also, Christian counselors and psychologists want to practice according to personal moral and religious beliefs and not by worldly standards. Therefore, Christian distance education answers the needs of both patients and doctors.
In summary, in answer to the growing problem of violence, drugs, and alcohol in the public schools, parents are opting to enroll children in Christian distance education. Many graduates may also seek a post-secondary education in the ministry or Christian-based careers in psychology or counseling. Whether a student signs up for a correspondence course in a particular subject, or a degree program, accredited Christian distance learning is now a reality.

Online Learning - The Future of Higher Education

Online education programs have changed the college landscape, allowing students to work from anywhere in the world to obtain accredited college degrees. According to The Washington Post, some groups are predicting that one in 10 college students will be enrolled in online degree programs by 2008. And fortunately, it's easier than ever to get funding for online education programs. The advantages of online learning continue to stack up.
Attend Class on Your Schedule without Putting Your Life on Hold
For adult learners, an online education can mean the freedom to keep a job and get a degree at the same time.
Many adult learners have families or other responsibilities, and a strict work schedule that doesn't lend itself to a traditional education that requires traveling to campus and attending classes at specific times. One of the advantages of online learning is the flexibility to attend classes on a schedule that works for you. For adult learners, returning to school shouldn't have to mean putting a busy life on hold.
Discover the Online Advantage for Continuing Education and Certification
Another great advantage for adult learners is the ability to take continuing education courses online. Many times jobs require employees to continue their education for certification, job requirements, or to allow employees to gain added knowledge and skill within their area of the organization. Online learning is perfectly suited to fulfill these types of requirements. You can continue to meet your everyday responsibilities while upgrading your credentials and skills with an online certification.
Find out about Federal Aid for Funding Your Future
Recently, it has become easier to get federal aid for online education. Now, filling out a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) determines how much money in grants and loans you can get from the government. If you're thinking of continuing your education, but you're worried about funding it, the government just might have you covered.
Online education programs are growing more popular among young and adult learners alike. Online courses don't interfere with your life, and it's easier than ever to pay for your education. The online campus is as large as your imagination, and it's growing.

Pros And Cons Of Distance Education

Previously, it was possible to practice distance learning only through the mail. However, in recent times, with the help of technological advancements, these programs are also available online. Distance learning is beneficial to those students who not only wish to complete higher studies but also need to earn a living at the same time. It is also ideal for those who can study only part-time, as they may be busy with other activities. Distance learning programs are offered for education at any level, but are more popular with university studies.
Distance education, as the name suggests, is a method of implementing education to students living in distant places and cannot access further education. Using this approach, the student is not required to attend classes like in a regular school or college. Education is imparted through correspondence and communication between the institution and the pupil.
In order to gain knowledge and complete higher studies, a student does not have to attend regular educational institutions. Distance learning makes the task of achieving the desired course of education easier while sitting in the comfort of your home. In distance learning, you do not have the advantage of receiving personal attention and guidance of a teacher or a professor as in a regular school. Instead you need to study on your own.
The educational institution supplies all the required educational material, resources and references. This correspondence will help you to stay in touch and move in pace with the activities and course of studies of other students attending regular schools and colleges. The institution usually provides an entire range of books, audio and visual aids such as tapes and CDs where you have enrolled.
In order to implement distance-learning programs effectively, you need to correspond and communicate with the instructors regularly. To enable efficient and quick communication, it may be necessary for you to install a computer. To clear your doubts and answer your queries, you may also have to download certain programs and suggested websites or interact with the professor through videoconferences.
Distance learning provides you the convenience of studying in the comfort of your home and saves you from the daily grind of commuting. You have the liberty of performing other chores and completing studies at the same time. These programs offer immense flexibility of pace, especially to those who are involved in other occupational activities.
You will be entirely by yourself and can receive help only through the resources supplied by the institution. If you are not good at grasping and learning without the supervision and guidance of an instructor, the program may prove to be quite a challenging task. If you cannot adhere to deadlines and have a habit of procrastinating, distance learning is not a very good idea.
A simple guide to make the task of distance learning easier is to follow basic rules and management techniques. Prepare a timetable and allocate appropriate hours to studies and other activities. Dedicate the required time and attention to learning. Stay in regular contact with your teachers and other students so that you don't lag behind. Do not hesitate to ask questions and clear your doubts. Put in all the hard work and effort as you would in a regular school.
Before you finally decide to enroll as a student of distance education, remember to consider the positive and negative aspects so that the program proves to be beneficial.

Choosing the Right Educational Video Games for Your Children

Video games are among the most popular toys today. Children of all ages spend a lot of time engrossed in the latest action-packed video console or computer game. For this reason, it is important to choose video games that are educational, rather than those that contain violence or other content not suitable for children. There is a host of video games on the market perfect for children. These games incorporate education into the fun of video games, giving both parents and children lots of safe, educational options to choose from.
Though there have been serious concerns over the past few years surrounding the adverse affects of frequent video game playing on children, playing video games can have some positive effects as well. First, games can provide children a fun and social form of entertainment, especially when played in pairs or even teams. This allows children who share similar interests the opportunity to learn from each other while having fun in a pressure-free environment. This also helps to encourage teamwork and cooperation, two attributes that are essential to a child's social education.
Video games can also make children feel more comfortable with technology. This may not be as much of an issue as it used to be, as many children are now learning basic computer skills at a young age, but it is still an important factor since technology changes so frequently. It also gives them the opportunity to share their knowledge with other children, and to learn from their experiences in a particular game or format.
Playing educational video games can also help build a child's self-esteem as he or she masters more and more different levels in a particular game. More importantly, it can also teach children to feel good about having fun in a non-competitive environment.
However, the main goal of educational video games is, of course, to help educate. Educational video games can improve the development of math, reading, and problem-solving skills. This kind of practice --practice that your children will want to take part in-- can help them with their schoolwork, as well as help them to catch onto particular subjects more quickly.
Video games can also help the improvement and development of eye-hand coordination, as well as fine motor skills. This will be very important to any child's future, and can be instrumental in developing a child's interests and special skills. This is also a good way to encourage your child to use different parts of his or her brain.
No matter which educational video games you choose, be sure they do not contain any features that would not be suitable for your children. Since the objective is to learn, they should help build useful skills and be thought-provoking. These games will also provide your child with hours of fun, while helping to build some of the most essential basic skills.

Educational Toy Stores

Any kind of store provides the platform to choose and buy the various necessary objects required for different purposes. Educational toys are no exception to that. They provide the parents an opportunity, to choose and give their kids the best toy suited to meet their child's playing, and learning needs.
Parents can choose the appropriate toy for their children from the large number of toy stores spread all over the country. Most of these stores have a tie up with the various toy manufacturing companies, and suppliers who provide the latest and most popular toys to their store. However, some of them may serve as the retail outlet of their own production house.
Most of these stores offer a number of departments to choose a toy from. Toys are usually sorted according to age groups, the type of the toy (such as construction toys, puzzles, dolls, or arts and crafts). Most of them have different section for boys and girls, to classify the toys according to gender specification. In case parents prefer any particular brand of toys, some stores sort the toys according to the brand and company name. Good store organization makes shopping easier and more comfortable for the customers.
Toys can be ordered directly online, through the Web sites of these stores, or by visiting their retail store locations. The payment and the delivery policies may vary from one store to another, depending on their terms and conditions. Prices may vary according to the brand, the age group it is made for, the materials used, and the different functionalities of the toy. However, parents are advised to compare, and check the different toys offered, by the various stores before buying the toy that would suit their child perfectly.

The Blessings of Online Learning Education

While it may be easy for us to say that an education is a must for every young man or woman, fate doesn't grant that opportunity to everyone. Some are too poor to pay for the tuition fees, others have families to care for and no chance to take some time off and hit the books. This is where online learning education comes into play.
Online learning education can be regarded as an evolved form of the snail mail education system, where classes, assignments and tests would be mailed to the student's home address. But now that most people have a computer that can connect to the World Wide Web, this form of learning has gone to the next level. All materials related to the course are now sent through e-mail, with the additional benefit of discussion forums and online conferences with both the educator and other students. Some universities offer additional classes that students can attend if they wish, where they can meet their professors and fellow classmates. Exams can be either performed on campus or online, with a specific time limit.
With the way our world has evolved since the time men learned to make a fire, having an education and a degree is now almost mandatory. While it is true that a piece of paper from a college does not always guarantee someone a job, not having that paper is ten times as bad. Those without an education are forced to find work in different fields, where muscle or beauty is rated higher than a degree. The main problem would be that the pay is not as good, and with the new discoveries in machinery human muscle isn't always needed anymore. Beauty, however, will always be in demand.
The idea of online education is not new by any means, but it has gained the most popularity within the last decade. More and more people have signed up for online courses, gained their degrees and gone on to work in their chosen field without any trouble. But who is this system primarily for? It is of course true that even young students can benefit from online learning, but life on campus is a large part of a young adult's social life.
We can say then that online learning education is for grown adults who are at home raising children, or already have one job and wish to learn more, or people with special circumstances that make it difficult for them to leave the house on a regular basis. To these and more, online education is the easiest and best way to gain what they want - more knowledge.

How Technology is Reforming Education

The institution of the school is changing through the centuries. Each new generation of students sees changes in the school system. Electronic technology is a wonderful invention that has helped places like the school system. But with the development of technology comes increased amounts of moronic individuals. The government doesn't want intelligent citizens, just obedient; so they do nothing to change the issue of a flawed system. The fashion industry is "helping" by projecting that intelligence is not fashionable and should be avoided. With these pressures, the school has lost the need to teach students how to think because the line of what thought actually is had been blurred. Students believe they are thinking when they are not, therefore school is inadequately teaching students how to think.
It is hard to resist the urges of popular fashion and not follow the herd into becoming what media tries to shape a person into. In today's society, it appears to be fashionable to be unintelligent; "...strong currents [are] at work against the development of powers of articulateness" (Ricker 8). Popular sitcoms tend to have the hilarious idiot, like Homer from "The Simpsons". He is incredibly stupid, but humorous at the same time so it projects the image that being brainless is funny and popular. A student must face the stifling pressure of following what is accepted, thus often "...betray a curious sense of shame about speaking articulately..." (Ricker 8). To remain out of a negative spotlight, students will attempt to avoid being the "black sheep". They will often try to "hide in the mass[es]" (Ricker 8). With these popular fashions guiding the way individuals think, little has been done to change this image of trendy stupidity.
Latin was once taught in the school system because it is a base root language that shaped many other languages such as Spanish, French, Italian, and even English. Individuals often believe that Latin was taught because many famous texts and sayings are in Latin, but Latin is an extraordinary way to learn how languages have a certain type of structure to them (Ricker 7). Students believe that all there is to learn about English it to read and write, but there is much more to be taught than just how a word is spelt and what the letter "A" should look like.
Teachers fail to teach the grammar of English; how sentences should be formed. Part of the importance of forming sentences is the thought. People (students especially) have become confused as to what thought it. They believe that "...everything our minds do, worrying, remembering, day dreaming..." (Ricker 7) are processes of thought, when actual thought is forming ideas into words and stating such ideas articulately. To create good thought, students must practice continually, shaping their ideas and putting them into words. Northrop Frye in Marvi Ricker's essay expressed that: "There is no such thing as an inarticulate idea waiting to have the right words wrapped around it. They have to learn that ideas do not exist until they have been incorporated into words" (Ricker 7).
The gift of literacy also gives an individual the chance for freedom. When students are able to read, they develop the ability to follow rules of the road (for example, a STOP sign). But once those students are able to produce a cognitive process, they begin developing their own ideas. Those ideas may include a reason why not to follow a certain rule. It is hard for a government to control a society full of people with rebellious ideas. So to be sure that doesn't happen as easily, the government will make sure that citizens can read and write easily, "...but development of verbal competency is very much left to the individual" (Ricker 8).
The school has failed in teaching students to think properly because it is unclear as to what thought is. Despite this large flaw being existent in the school, little has been done to change it because of pressures from fashion and the government. One can hope that thought will once again be important enough to teach in the school again. But until everyone comes to understand what thought truly is and its importance, then the art of articulate thought will be lost. Until then, thought is a conspiracy behind the shadows of society.

Educational Loan: A Partner in Achieving Success

Education is important to one's success. It is the kind of wealth that is never stolen. What if you don't have the means of going to college? This is when most students resort to financial supports such as loans, scholarship grants, and work-study type of curriculum.
Educational Loan is the most popular option of getting support for college. There are some requirements you have to accomplish to avail this opportunity.
The Financial Assistance Process
I. Fill up the application form for student loans.
o National citizen of the United States are more prioritized. Non- U.S citizen should show a valid SS number.
o Must be enrolled on selective service program among men aging 18 to 25 years old.
o Must have a Secondary Level Educational Attainment or accomplished a GED (General Education Development) program.
o Enrolled, at least for a semester, in a bachelor's degree course or any educational program.
II. List at least six schools where you wish to be admitted. This will permit you to have numerous award letters.
The application forms in applying for student aid are made available at your secondary level education school, any college financial assistance office, or at any public libraries. This form will be processed for almost four to six weeks. After that period, you'll be receiving your SAR (Student Aid Report)
The SAR carries the information of how much you'll be receiving on your financial support and how much is your EFC (Expected Family Contribution). The schools you've listed in the application form would also receive this document.
III. Upon the receipt of your SAR, you have to check for possible errors or incorrect information written.
If there are errors, you may correct them through online at FAFSA Web Corrections, write down certain corrections and mail it on the given mailing address, or contact the financial assistance office of the school you plan to be admitted in.
IV. In accepting reward letters received from different schools you had applied, you must take into consideration the best option wherein you'll benefit more.
Try to:
o Evaluate the breakdown
- Find the CoA (Cost of Attendance). The itemized list of amounts of tuition fees, board and lodging, and miscellaneous are reflected in here. The EFC and the student support amount must be equal with the CoA so that you'll not need additional resources of income to attend college.
o Ask Questions
- asking some questions to yourself would give you enough reasons to accept the award package or not, like;
1. Do you have to maintain a specific grade?
2. Does the package shield the similar expenses each year?
3. What would happen to your loan if you receive a scholarship grant?
4. What is the interest rate of your loan?
o Make a choice
- After comparing the pros and cons of each award letters, you're already down to the next step which is choosing the option you'll benefit most.
There are two kinds of Educational Loans
A. Government Student Loans
The university or college institution you wish to enroll at might be involved on either FFELP (Federal Family Education Loan Program) or FDLP (Federal Direct Loan Program). In FFELP, private lenders are the ones who offer loan funds. While in FDLP, the funds will come from the national government.
B. Private Loan Firms
If for example, unfortunately you didn't qualify for government student loans, private lenders are your last option. These private loan firms provide you a more flexible repayment conditions and reasonable interest rates. Private lenders offer you loans that include from paying the balance that your grant can't cover to paying your full education cost.
Things to consider on applying for a loan
o Borrow the exact amount money you only need.
Loans are big responsibility. You have to repay them in due time. To avoid losing your credibility as a loaner, you only borrow the money you need. No more, no less!
o Select your lending firm carefully.

These are just some of the benefits that an educational video can give for your child’s development. Videos have been a great help since these does most of the job. Homeschooling Resources - Using Textbooks And Other Educational Materials

Conventional learning materials such as textbooks are usually easy to find. If you're interested in the type of texts used in the schools, you can check with your local school district or county office of education to see if they have a curriculum library. Sometimes access to such libraries is limited to public school teachers, but often the public is also allowed to peruse school materials there. Media and technology centers, from which laboratory equipment, films, video and audio equipment and tapes, or computer hardware and software can be borrowed. Availability to homeschoolers will depend on state and district regulations.
Your area may also have a used book depository, where textbooks, library books, and equipment no longer used by area schools can be purchased for thrift-store prices or are free for the taking. Old encyclopedias, dictionaries, and other reference books are fairly common but are far outnumbered by the literature: historical novels, literary classics, just plain good reading. Some educational publishers will ask for a school purchase order or for an order on your school letter head. Others are happy to sell textbooks to home-schoolers but draw the line at teachers' guides and answer keys. Some refuse to deal with homeschoolers at all, but a few educational publishers, such as Follett, have set up divisions specifically to serve the homeschool market.
Also worth checking out are local teacher supply stores. Most homeschoolers will not be interested in the endless racks of seasonal bulletin board decorations and "Great Job!" stickers, but many such stores also carry lots of supplementary materials for science, math, and literature. Usually, you'll also find an assortment of paper and other consumables: colored construction paper, newsprint both blank and ruled for various grade levels, poster and finger paints, pens, and pencils. Dozens of catalog businesses are aimed at the home schooling market - with more popping up every day. Some mainly carry books about homeschooling; others carry mainly curricular materials.
Recently, as homeschooling has become more popular and well-known, larger companies have entered the market, some carrying materials previously unavailable directly to homeschoolers and others carrying the more popular products of smaller companies but undercutting their prices. If you tend to enjoy the more obscure resources, you might want to make a point of patronizing the smaller companies, even for those items available elsewhere, just to help keep those interesting but obscure items available.
A relatively new dement in the homeschooling market in recent years are the independent dealers. Dorling Kindersley and Usborne Books are especially active in the homeschooling market, fueled largely by homeschooling parents who sell the books to afford to buy all the volumes they want for themselves.

A Brief History of Online Education

The internet has given us many gifts throughout the years - from music and video game codes to not so G-rated material. Therefore, it is no surprise that e-learning has made such a big splash in the web world. Within the past ten years, online education and internet training has provided many people with a new incentive to learn.
During the early 80's, e-training was just starting to become a potential creation. Companies and educational institutes were strictly hiring instructors to train their students. This was because computers were only beginning to grow, therefore making it difficult to come up with any other plan. These instructors were great at the time because it allowed training to be very hands on, especially since students were able to interact with their classmates and visually see the lessons. However, the problem with having just instructors was that there was a lot of blank time in between. Students were not being able to learn the material on their own time, thus difficulty set in when training with hoards of other people.
Luckily, as the computer industry started to expand, e-training was becoming a reality. For the next ten years, multimedia was at everyone's fingertips. Companies were just starting to use PowerPoint; a program that allowed people to create visually enhanced presentations. Video games and other multimedia programs were also popping up, thus resulting in a technology overhaul. As these advances continued, online education was only a step away.
The first type of online education was in the mid 1990's. This was when the internet was a great success, and multimedia was being taken to another level. The first few e-training companies dedicated their services to mainly businesses who did not want to hire trainers. Although the online education courses were great for new employees who needed training, it was only the beginning of an uphill process. Education online was very slow, as pictures were small and the entire course was text based. Nevertheless, it was beginning to catch the eye of many.
As the 1990's quickly ended, the millennium marked an entirely new period for technology. E-learning was finally on the map as online education courses were now very popular at colleges and businesses. Great streaming media, online video access, and fast web site servers made it possible for online education to make quite a splash. Students were also now able to learn from their homes during their own time, since working a job and going to school was quite a difficult task.
Today, online education has come a long way. Instructors are now being hired to solely teach online, which usually consists of being filmed for lesson videos. Companies are also hiring these online education programs, since a training session can not only be quick, but also be accessed at any time of the day or night. For many, it is a great opportunity because it gives us all more knowledge. We not only are able to get college degrees through this type of e-learning, but we also can have a life, without having to stay at the office overnight just to learn some material.

Distance Education Opportunities for All Ages

Are you familiar with distance education? It is an educational program by which the teaching or the learning occurs in a different place than where the program is based. Now, what does that mean? The best way to describe distance education is to give examples of it. One example is outreach programs; another is college extension programs, some home schooling programs, and online universities, colleges, and technical schools. Below you will find a more detailed description of each of these types of distance education and a reason why it might be an option for you.
Outreach programs are often conducted by organizations to bring information and distance education to students in outlying areas. It may be a zoo, a museum, or even a university which is conducting the outreach. It may be offered as a single one time course, or there may be a series of courses. Some of these distance education courses result in certification or training that the participants can use for work or school.
College extension courses are offered by main college campuses, but at smaller campuses in rural or outlying areas, to reach those who normally would not be able to attend a regular university due to family situation, money, time or any other reason. Although course offerings in this type of distance education are more limited it is a great resource for many people to get a degree that may not otherwise be able to get one and still have the "on campus" experience.
Home schooling is becoming more popular but it may be difficult to get all of the curriculum and materials that are needed. So, you can go online and get distance education courses for grades K through 12 in many different subjects, or you can order packets which are delivered to your home.
The final and one of the best examples of distance learning is online college, university and technical schools. You can get a degree from one of hundreds of accredited institutions right in the privacy of home at your own time and speed. These schools offer everything from a short specialized training program to a two year degree to a doctorate. You can become qualified for almost anything from medical transcription to doctorate in Educational Administration.
The key thing for any of these programs is to make sure that it is a qualified and respected program in whatever area you live and work.

Nursing Continuing Education Credits

According to a popular dictionary, the term 'Credit' means a "course unit", that is, "a unit of study, often equivalent to an hour of class time, in a course of higher education."
, the official website of the American Nurses Association, defines a Continuing Education Credit as "A unit of measurement that describes 50 minutes of an organized learning activity, that is either didactic or clinical experience".
There are several ways in which Credits can be earned. These include completion of regular college/in-house courses, completion of any relevant Continuing Education Courses offered by professional bodies, completion of distance learning or online course workshops and tutorials, presenting or attending course seminars, nursing-related medical presentations, and developing or teaching some course material, published papers, articles or books.
Broadly speaking, there are three types of Credits that one can earn.
The first one is known as `PLAR' (Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition) Credit. In this, the learner's previous workplace experience is compared to the learning requirements of a particular Continuing Education Course or program, and an assessment is made and a Credit awarded in recognition.
The Canadian Labor Force Development Board defines PLAR as a "process of identifying, assessing and recognizing what a person knows and can do for the purpose of awarding academic Credit".
The second is `transfer' Credit. This type of Credit award is based on some college and university courses completed already. In this, the learner's portfolio, transcripts and referee reports are assessed before awarding a Credit. This type of Credit can compensate for part of current or intended course requirements.
The third type is the `exemption' Credit. Here too, the assessment method is the same as in transfer Credit. But here, instead of getting a percent of Credit, the learner gets full [100%] Credit and is totally exempted from fulfilling any one course requirement.
Continuing Education agencies usually charge a non-refundable service fee for processing the application for Credit. Many of them conduct online quizzes and tests as part of their assessment before awarding Credits.
